It’s nice to have the opportunity to travel with our families. Getting into a car and exploring local and faraway attractions can help us create amazing memories. More and more of us are opting to travel by electric vehicle on these adventures. What do we need to know to choose the best electric vehicle for our family? When it comes to electric vehicles, knowing if they are safe, convenient, and environmentally friendly are typically our deciding factors. Whatever journeys we plan to go on, electric vehicles are a wonderful choice.
Electric Vehicles Are Safe for Our Families:
Keeping our families as safe as possible is always our priority, and it is also one of our top objectives when selecting a vehicle. This means we’ll be relieved to learn that, in general, electric vehicles are just as safe as any other vehicle on the road, and in many ways they are even safer.
Electric vehicles have low centers of gravity due to the location of their battery and the absence of a large mechanical engine. Electric vehicle battery packs are somewhat heavy and are normally found in the center of the vehicle, beneath the cabin. Gas cars have the engine at the front, raised a little higher off the floor. When a gas car makes a tight bend, the car’s weight changes from tire to tire, generating instability. This occurs far less frequently with a heavier, lower-to-the-ground EV battery.
In addition, many EVs come standard with safety features like forward collision warning and lane assist. Insurance studies have shown that “rates of injury claims connected to drivers and passengers of electric vehicles were more than 40% lower than for equivalent conventional models throughout 2011-19.”
Also, it is important to remember that electric vehicles don’t use combustible gasoline. While gasoline can catch fire when struck, high voltage batteries feature automatic disconnects in the event of a collision, as well as manual disconnects for emergency personnel (and mechanics).
Electric Vehicles Are Convenient for Our Families:
When traveling, there are so many places we can explore. We might go to a local museum, explore a nearby nature preserve, or decide to go on an extended trip to visit friends or family. This means we will be glad to hear that electric vehicles can travel between 250 and 600 miles on a full charge, which means they can take us anywhere we need to go and are comparable to traditional cars, which typically travel between 200 and 400 miles on a full tank of gas.
To charge your electric vehicle, you will need access to charging infrastructure. Electric vehicles must be charged by connecting them to electric vehicle charging stations, a standard socket with an adaptor. Unfortunately, not all areas have this infrastructure yet, so double-check before purchasing. If charging infrastructure is available locally, we will find that EVs are even more handy than traditional cars because we can simply plug them in and forget about them.
Electric Vehicles Are Environmentally Friendly:
Many of us make the choice to get an electric vehicle because we want a car that is better for the environment and that we know will not add to climate change. While electric vehicles are better for the environment this does not mean they are necessarily completely carbon neutral.
Carbon dioxide may be emitted while producing the electricity used to charge electric vehicles. The amount varies widely depending on how local power is produced, such as whether it is produced using renewable resources such as wind or solar. But even when the electricity used for charging is included, electric vehicles frequently have a lower carbon footprint than gasoline vehicles. Electric vehicles also emit no tailpipe emissions.
When we consider electric vehicles, we see that they meet our family’s needs. They are safe, they are convenient, and they are environmentally friendly. While we always have a lot of alternatives when it comes to purchasing our next vehicle, we should seriously consider acquiring an electric vehicle the next time we need one. We can be confident that we will be able to experience the wonders of our neighborhoods and larger communities with our families, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
